The art-program ‘Breakthrough’ is a cooperation between Kersan Art Studio (Indonesia) and PeRUPA (Malaysia) and as such part of a series of collaborations initiated by Kersan Art Studio with other art-institutions, community, gallery in Asia and abroad. The purpose of this program is to create cultural exchange, mutual education and cross-cultural dialogue between artists who share the same roots and who are inspired by the contemporary art movement in Malaysia and Indonesia.

‘Breakthrough’ which first edition had been held successfully in Artiseri Gallery Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia on 27 October to 10 December 2015 involving 11 artists from Indonesia and 8 of Malaysia. This program is the creative outcome of the meeting and interaction between artists (Malaysia) and Kersan Art Studio (Indonesia). The exhibition itself marks a starting point for an inspirational exchange between the two cultures. Then followed by an exhibition in Kersan Art Studio, Yogyakarta on 28 November to 19 December 2015, which involves 11 artists from Malaysia and 9 artists from Indonesia. The second edition of this exhibition offers the theme “Blue Zone”. In general “Blue Zone” is a space “imaginary” who have hope of “the value of peace”. In this case the “Blue Zone” at least can be lifted from two perspectives, the perspective of personal and perspectives communal. The artist are free to raise matters that are considered to raise the value of peace.

It is important to promote it in this process, because the artists involved come from different social area, and of course face a different problem. Therefore the “Blue Zone” can be expected to be the area representation of self value and social value that is projected from each artwork of each artist
