Fighting and Gambling
A Concept by Sentot Widodo
Because the whole course of life may be very difficult since birth, all living creatures should be bold to uphold their existence. They certainly have to face all stages of life. Here I am trying to explore this subject matter and bring it into visual area, raising simple themes such as the sacrifice and professional responsibility, the venture and struggle to survive and support family, the struggle of the poor to end their long unemployment, the economic problems that wind around people, the sacrifice and struggle of mothers or parents or public figures to consistently be good models, examples as well as inspirations for the existing generations, etc.
All these matters reflect the difficult fights human being have to do and the hard risks they may have to take throughout their paths of life. Fighting and taking risk may represent a fragment of everyone’s fundamental values of not just to live without any effort and hope. However, they also realize that there are challenges and risks, which demand power as much as necessary to keep fighting for their goals and dreams. Fighting and gambling against bad fate and all other life challenges reflect an obsession for a better life. It will be impressive and inspiring if what they contentedly achieve is equal to their efforts. My aesthetic imagination eventually takes objects existing very close to me. In my creative process, I may amplify or reduce the objects or even destroy them in terms of their shapes and functions in order to complete the idea and essence of the themes and the aesthetic values.
